Flexible solar and thermal energy conversion devices: Organic photovoltaics (OPVs), organic thermoelectric generators (OTEGs) and hybrid PV-TEG systems

Solar and thermal energy conversion are two major renewable technologies highly sought after in the past decades by academia, industry, policymakers. Besides traditionally large-size solar convertors, more recently, lightweight, flexible cells thermoelectric generators (TEGs) based on organic semiconductor materials have attracted much attention due to booming development of wearable electronics. In this article, we comprehensively review scientific advances field photovoltaics devices, focusing both fundamental processes as well devices. This brings together state-of-the-art technological advancements hybrid photovoltaic-thermoelectric harvesters, with overarching relevance implications for self-powered electronics internet-of-things (IoT) applications.
